Tarot Meets Witchcraft: How to Use Cards in Your Spellwork

What happens when 2 great things come together?  Magick!

And that’s what happens when you combine spellwork and tarot.  Your witchcraft can add so much to your tarot reading, and your tarot reading can add so much to your witchcraft.

Adding tarot to witchcraft

There are several ways to add tarot to witchcraft.

  1. Display a relevant card on your altar as a focus for the day/week/month/moon cycle.  This will help you direct your magical work in the right direction as you spend time at your altar.

  2. Add a relevant card to jar spells.  (I recommend having an inexpensive deck that you don’t mind pulling cards out of for this purpose.)

  3. Tear up a card to use in a magickal incense, powder, or rice to infuse that substance with the energy of the card.  (Again, this is where a cheap, disposable deck comes in.)

  4. Use a card as a focus for a spell, and then either burn it if you’re banishing, or carry it with you if you’re invoking.

Tarot cards each have a very focused energy, and bringing that focus to spellwork can heighten our magick in new ways.

Adding witchcraft to tarot

This can really make our readings sing!

  1.  Add the accoutrements of the craft to your readings, including incense, teas, sacred altar space, crystals, etc.  Anyone can read on a plain kitchen table, but bringing elements of the craft to your reading space makes it sacred!

  2. Do spellwork based on what a reading tells you.  If you draw problematic or scary cards, do protection rituals.  If you draw cards that show flagging energies, do spellwork to raise your spirits.  If you draw cards that suggest love and relationships, do spellwork to help manifest those things.

  3. Make tarot a part of your daily magickal practice.  Draw a card before you meditate in the morning, or with your herbal tea before bed.  Introduce tarot to the rituals that you do to connect.

There are so many other ways to combine witchcraft and tarot.  What are your favorites?  Please share in the comments and let’s help each other find the magick!
