The Life-Changing Magick of Daily Tarot: Why One Card a Day Matters
Daily journaling with tarot
Humans are creatures of habit. We have all sorts of daily rituals that keep us going throughout the day. We wake, we stretch, we brush our teeth, we feed ourselves. Why wouldn’t we also want to have a daily tarot ritual that feeds our souls?
It takes just minutes a day and can bring our focus back to center in a world that wants all of our attention and energy. Whether you choose to draw a card every morning to see what the day holds, or every night to integrate everything you experienced that day, a daily tarot ritual is an important way to focus inward.
I recommend pairing your daily tarot reading with a luxurious beverage of choice, whether that be coffee, tea, or something else delightful. You can also heighten the experience by burning incense or a candle. I also highly, HIGHLY recommend that you jot your cards down, whether in a journal or daily planner. This way, you can write down how the card applies to your day and also see patterns over several days, weeks, or even months. And drawing a card one day may mean something entirely different than drawing the same card 2 weeks later. Your record can help you integrate what you learn from the cards and help you be a better reader in general!
You can pair this daily tarot ritual with crystal work, spellwork, prayer, or anything else that makes sense to you. Just don’t make it so cumbersome that it will be a pain to follow later. Keep it short and sweet, and try to approach it with a sense of exploration and excitement.
My ritual looks like this: I sit at the same desk every day, and use a special pen that I love. I drink my coffee, and I pull a card. I write 2 or 3 lines about how that card applies to my day. Then I have a section titled ‘Earth’, where I write how my body feels. I have a section called ‘Water’, where I write about my emotional state. I have a section called ‘Fire’, where I write about what I’m excited about, and I have a section called ‘Air’, where I write about what occupies my mind at the time. Finally, I have a section called ‘Spirit’, where I write about the state of my spiritual life that day. All in all, it covers less than one page of a Mokeskine daily planner, and it’s quick and easy enough that it doesn’t feel like a slog. Plus it gives me an important record to look back on and see how the card I pulled affected my day.
Give it a shot! You will find that you learn the cards a lot easier, and you benefit from taking that moment out of your day to connect spiritually. Let me know how it goes!
